1. You’re currently busy with Super Show 6 performances, and it’s also the year you welcome being 30 years old (The interview was done on 23/12). You returned in 2012, and last year you seem to have grabbed a new opportunity well?
I really wanted to do acting, and I got to film a good movie. Cat Funeral is a unique movie on lovers’ farewell, where they reunite to arrange the funeral of the cat they raised together; a movie showing the maturing of a poor romance. I found the scenario very fun when I first read the script, and carefully asked, “I want to do it, it’s probably difficult right?” I’m so thankful I was given this opportunity.
2. How was filming?
We filmed for 4 months, from November 2013 to February. It’s quite a long time of filming, so the female lead Park Seyeong, cast and staff all got really close. Whenever the snow got too heavy, we wrapped up filming and went indoors and talked over soju. When we filmed at Deokjeok Island, it snowed so heavily we couldn’t return to Seoul, and were trapped on the island, so for a few days we drank a lot. (Laughs). I don’t know how the public will receive this movie when it’s released, but I (already) feel a huge sense of accomplishment having worked hard while enjoying myself with good actors and good staff.
3. In the movie, Donghoon (Kangin’s role) has the nature of expressing himself badly. I think it’s the exact opposite of Kangin in reality.
Although I am lively and frivolous and can’t stay still, I think it’s relative. I’m shy when I’m with the girl I like. “Want to live together?” The female lead Jaehee had no qualms making such a suggestion; I think I should be more cautious in such a situation. I think that easygoing people are more prone to getting hurt. Donghoon’s character is narrow-minded, which can be seen as him feeling inferior, but he’s being considerate to Jaehee. Their relationship is like that, partly for that reason.
4. He’s clumsy, but on the other hand, he’s affectionate. How does Kangin’s dating style compare to this?
I’m the kind of man who helps debone for her when I eat chicken. For example, when having ox bones soup, I only take a bit of kimchi and give extra rice. I want to share all the food (Laughs).
5. When actors are acting, they need to date convincingly till the director is satisfied. How is your romance with Park Seyeong?
I still don’t dare to label myself an “actor”. Park Geunhyung teacher said that there are “shit actors” (tn: it doesn’t literally refer to lousy acting, something more like having to ask for time to get into emotions during filming). I think I’m not even at that level yet; I can’t even please the director. So I pondered about what I’m good at, and used my romance experience and integrated it to the best I could. Since I encountered love and breakup before.
6. What audience do you think is suitable to watch this movie?
Both those in love and those who went through a farewell can watch it with the same mindset. Honestly, it’s impossible to warmly talk about “farewell”. I just hope it’s a good movie for those couples that watch movies while holding hands tightly.
Super Junior’s Leeteuk and SHINee’s Onew, both leaders and eldest members of their respective groups, went to Singapore for a pictorial.
In Cosmopolitan’s February issue the duo shows off their casual yet stylish vacation styles. Leeteuk wears a black and white striped jacket, looking sharp and clean cut. Meanwhile, Onew looks refreshing and playful in a blue striped top. The two reveal what they have been up to in an interview.
Leeteuk shared, “I had to participate in a comeback right after I came back from completing my military service so I have yet to adjust completely. Super Junior is currently on a world tour so we are meeting our fans all over the world.”
Onew revealed, “I had to rest because of my health which made me really miss performing. Thankfully, I was able to join concerts late last year. SHINee is preparing for a solo concert at Tokyo Dome in March.”
They also commented on vacations, “A feeling that is healing? While I was here I had no worries,” answered Leeteuk. Onew replied, “I like warm and humid weather. Even though I wore a warm coat when I got off the airplane, I happily yelled, ‘I like it so much!’ when I arrived in Singapore. I’m concerned that my throat might hurt because I shouted so much.” The younger singer proved to be a mood maker with his funny antics.
Despite both of them being from SM entertainment, the two were not able to see each other often because of their different schedules. They were happy to get closer to each another through this vacation.
