Donghae

This post is in reference to Mnet’s ’2012 Best KPOP Fan-club Awards’ see here: Support Super Junior by Voting for Sup3rjunior in Mnet’s ’2012 Best KPOP Fan-club Awards’. To be honest, I’m not sure where to start! This whole situation is infuriating, but I shall illustrate with pictures…

Original information about the 2012 KPOP Fan-Club Awards provided by Mnet

Mnet

Mnet then decided to change the rules and requirements whilst the competition was taking place.

Mnet

After the competition had ended.. We made the top 5! Thanks to ELFs commitment and hard work! Our assumed prize, 1st prize.. I know we weren’t no.1, but we did manage to get 250,000+ attendees.

E-Mail From Mnet

’2012 Mnet K-pop fan club awards’ winner announcement

Mnet Announcement

^^ Oh okay,…   Our prizes ..   - 2013 Season’s Greeting or recent album (30ea) and Mnet official fan club emblem (Grey)

We replied asking for Super Junior M’s Breakdown album, the Korean version.. Considering it was recent & we did have a choice. But instead Mnet decided to give 2013 calendars.. how exciting 2013 calendars.. It’s already March =_____________=

Mnet

We received the emblem…

e-mail-from-mnet

However…

SJ

^^ “The driver was unable to collect funds on 1st delivery attempt” … why?! because I was asked to pay over £105!!! I thought we won something, why on earth do I have to pay for delivery??!?

I’m annoyed because…

  1. Sup3rjunior’s readers put in a lot of effort to reach a high attendance.
  2. Mnet decided to change the rules and requirements whilst the competition was still taking place. Mnet changed the rules, they neither clarified things properly nor did they provide much details, which made assumptions inevitable.
  3. Based on the email’s content (?) I asked for SJMBreakdown (after conducting a poll) instead they send 2013 Calendar.
  4. Delivery charge of £105, that I  have to pay? er what? That is ₩173122.2218, €121.8413 or $158.5064 … Seriously? How can Mnet not cover the delivery charge, I think Mnet should have covered the cost as it not something I ordered but a prize.

Update**

Hi! I just read this.
I’m not sure how the issue went exactly, but I think that what you have to pay is not the delivery service, but UK customs.
If that is the case, neither Mnet or you are at fault. It’s a legal process to control all the content imported to European Union from any non UE country. I don’t know the declared value they put on the invoice, but 105GBP for 15kg. of package sounds legit for a custom problem.

Unfortunately, if this is the case, Mnet will not be responsible (as it’s a law applied in UK and has nothing to do with SKorea) and your only choice is to refuse the package or to pay.

DayDream

^^ I think DayDream could be right, still not sure whether I should pay or not :(

Update** Mnet is going to pay! But then again.. it’s still calendars people… Not CDs

Update** Mnet has NOT paid..

Note** Sup3rjunior will still be giving away Music Bank Live In Jakarta or Boys in the City_Paris or SS5 ticket, anywhere in the World (until further notice).

  1. Mmm i understand…it is unfair because as you said it was a price…if we had to pay for the prices might as well buy them

  2. Fighting T^T
Ah, honestly I don’t know what to say ><
    ********* mnet x(

  3. Wow that’s is bull crap! What can we do though?? And it’s totally unfair to you b/c you had to pay!! Whatever you decide to do, you can count with my support!

  4. I think you can go to the legal way. I do not know in Korea, but according to European laws is prohibited to offer a false prize, violates the principle of defense of competition.
I’m not an expert but I’m studying law in college.

  5. A lawyer!
    Any legal eagle ou there?

  6. I stand corrected
    Out there!

  7. can we appeal and clarify with their highest authority?can we take the album and get ups to charge the sender?( i used to have customers who doesn’t pay delivery charges and we the sender end up getting charged).anyway doesn’t we belong to the 1st prize category as long as we have over 250k attendance according to their website?

    • opps, sorry, its not album but calendars,if we reject them, they will not be able to charge us anything.

  8. waaah I’m out of words.. it is really annoying ..

  9. wow im so shocked in reading this ! really it makes me angry. but i dont know if you can do something against mnet :/ maybe you can send them a large email with this things yoi wrote here in. i hope mnet will make a sorry to you :/

  10. They should at least pay the delivery, if things would be like this at least they should clarify that since the begining, is not fair :/

  11. OMG So shocked, omg 150 poundsss?? *jaw drops* so bad oh no yu can’t >,< This is too much for you sid D:

  12. This is sooo unbelievable!! So much work for nothing! >_<!!!

  13. OMG !! I’m still angry since I read it from your tweets before and reply on it too with a DAMN ANGRY MOOD =_________= .. honestly, we should win with the first prize >______<" if they can't handle with "delivery charge" then don't make such an award at the expense of the winner !!!!!!!! screw to them and for everything they did! and really this position is awkward and disrespectful =____= and I don't know how to deal with it =\\\ ..
and as an ELF, just be stronger and FIGHTING girly !! even if I don't no how, just know that ELFs are beside you and understanding carefully =) ..

  14. There are so many ridiculous things about this situation:

    - The biggest of those would be the “sudden” appearance and rise of Krisbar, Luhan and FTisland fanclubs – I know they’re popular and FT fans are always strong on Mnet votings, but no one, NO ONE can convince me that either them or Exotics are like 5 times larger in number than ELFs! Come on! They appeared suddenly and took 1 million votes in a day! Where were they during MAMA? Anyway, Mnet received complaints, checked, and said everything was fine (yeah right) O_o Ok, moving on;

    - Here I’d like to apologize, cause I was one of those fans who asked fans to vote for other SJ-clubs once this one reached 250.000, I said that since this one won 1st prize we should help other SJ-clubs win something as well… I’m sorry… T_T

    - I don’t even know what to say about the present situation though. WTH Mnet? What’s with the changing of the rules AFTER the competition ends? A CALENDAR? And a gray ‘honorable’ badge? Really?! And the delivery fee, just, I don’t even know what to say!

I am EXTREMELY disappointed in Mnet!! They always seemed very SJ-friendly :(

    • “where were they during MAMA?”

      Dude… I agree… it might sound arrogant, but it’s SO TRUE. (Y)

  15. Well, the thing is, I could have guessed they wouldn’t give the first prize to anyone who got over 250,000 especially after so many groups had. The prize they were offering is expensive enough for one group, much less 5 or 6. The rules were ambiguous but the phrasing indicated it could either be based on amount or on rank. They went by rank in the end.

But as for the request for the particular album, they should have sent what they promised, and as for the fee, there should be indication of shipping costs in the contest rules, otherwise it should be paid for. I don’t know that a lawyer is useful because it costs money and takes time. You should probably try to contact them again and I would recommend posting this online, not as an offense to ELF which would only encourage spite from other fandoms, but just as a rotten form of business practice.

  16. Can you refuse it? They could stick it where the sun don’t shine!!Or else get legal advice.

  17. That is ridiculous! Don’t pay for that. And I think we all know that the top 4 cheated, while Sup3rJunior worked hard for that spot. Them making you pay for a prize after we were so disgustingly cheated is an insult to this Fan-Club. I’d send them a complaint and tell them to shove their calenders down their throats.

  18. Now that I am not driving…I agree with MsMiniVivi
You should write them and ask for an explanation, because obviously they ommitted facts, although no one knows if in good or bad faith
No one pays for a prize, that is absurd, I don’t believe absurdity is not common in S Korea
After all, does Mnet have an honour to defend, or?

  19. well.. all I can say is… i wouldn’t have paid the delivery charge either… that’s really ridiculous…

  20. Sid!!!
    That’s ridiculous… I agree with this comment ↑ ~~

    Don’t pay anything.
We did what we can,,, but we know Mnet is bullshit… tbh don’t pay.

  21. Sorry, but do they really want you to pay shipping charges or could it be taxes?

    • yeah youre right.. wonder if its the tax.. but since its a supposedly gift……… i wouldnt pay for it :/ and its 2013 calendars not break down album ~.~

      • Well I absolutely understand your frustrations.
Also I don’t know about the UK, but where I’m from you have to pay customs for gifts if they’re worth exceeds a certain amount. And if you win something from outside of the European union they charge import-turnover taxes.
I’m sorry it turned out so disappointing for you. Even sending the wrong items, somehow it seems like Mnet didn’t take this whole competition serious. Not even showing any reaction towards complaints. .
I wouldn’t pay for it either, especially since it’s not what you chose.
I mean, seriously mnet if you just send whatever is convenient for you then don’t even give choices.

        • I’m on you on this. It sounds totally as a custom problem. Unfortunately I have some experience from ebay too… ouch!

          • What do you think? Should I pay? :( gosh those calendars better contain some personal belongings of SJ! or made from gold.

  22. Hi, this is my first post here….but I have been checking this site a lot, one of the very few I go to. Anyway this post compelled me to sign it because of the ridiculousness of this topic.

I don’t think you need a lawyer to pesent your case & get justification as to how this particular “contest was executed”. I think your documentation of the event is excellent to begin with…I would suggest you try checking the contest’s fine prints first if any….maybe there it was mentioned that if you win, you’ll be responsible for duties or delivery charges for the prize you receive, that you could have just missed. If there was no fine prints that mentions such, you should bring your case back to the executives of MNET themselves, along with your proofs. If they ignore you….I think there are entertainment news publications who will be interested hearing you out, but you’ll need someone from Korea to help out presenting your case…this can be considered “false advertisement”. Also the fact they changed the contest requirements & awarding procedures within the contest dates is already unfair…and then to be given a calendar (instead of a CD)…which was clealy NOT indicated as an option over a “greeting” is a real breach from MNET on the very contest they created.

Mind you…technology has afforded us human beings a way to voice out our frustrations faster than ever…if you have than many people voting for your fan club to win….any thoughts of tweeting & asking those people to retweet this….#MNETprizeundelivered or #MNETcontestdisappointsfanclub and link it to a souce where they can read why this is…..BUT you’ve got to do this “only” after you bring the issue to MNET first.

    PS…I’m not a lawyer : )

    • Thank you for your explanation! I think you might be right! However, £105 is still quite a lot :( Also I did ask for CD’s.. but got the calendars instead..

      • Sincerely, no matter how lovely the calendars are… they are not worth your 105 pounds. If you were to sell them, maybe you could get some benefit, but I understand they were for giveaway, so you’ll lose a lot of money on this. For me, it’s a big NO.
Maybe you could open a donation special to find funds and give a calendar to the ones that help with the customs fee? I have no idea if that’ll work.

Anyway, the decision is yours… so whatever you decide: Fighting!

        • Thank you, but unfortunately seeing as though it was get delivered tomorrow.. It’s too late to create a donation for custom fees.. I just feel bad though ah… I think it’s going to be.. a no :(

          • Hi! If the problem is just about British customs, can Mnet deliver it to another country close to UK, or if worst comes to worst to a country out of EU? And then ship to you by ELF’s own efforts? If it is possible, it won’t cost a lot, i guess.

          • Hey! It seems Mnet is going to pay for the customs fee, I’m glad for you!
Calendars may seem a poor present for so much effort, but it’s better than nothing! You did your best, so enjoy whatever is on that box ;)
I’m sure all ELFs that’ll receive the calendar will be happy too ^_^

  24. it’s okay. ELF made the attendance and we got grey emblem… calenders is not such a big deal. i know it motivated a lot of ELF to mark attendance..but i am sure every ELF can understand the situation..105 pounds is quite a lot and u dont need to be responsible for that. mnet is just ..sigh..

  25. That’s kind of disappointing. Prize choice issues, mailing issues… The world’s not making things easy, is it?
By the way, seeing that price shocked me. Wow, you win something free, and still end up paying that much? And since it IS March already…
Prize or not, at least we can say we did our best~

    • P.S. I believe your choice of GIF is very appropriate for this situation. (;

  26. Sid,

DONT u dare pay a dime for a prize that it wasn’t even supposed to be that. I think we should all get together somehow & deman for MNet not only to give the ACTUAL prize offered but to also pay for all fees related to shipping the prize.

It is absolutely ridiculous that they not only gave us whatever the hell they had left over as a prize but on top of that we have to pay!! And I say “WE” because all ELFs are in this together with you. I’m just ugh! (-_-) ….

Dont pay girl…but lets make them regret it!! Nobody messes with us ELF and gets away with it! 😠

  27. it is indeed a sad event that happened to us. We all did our best to reach the first prize. But then MNET did this :/ Please explain to them that you aren’t paying for it because first of all it is a PRIZE. It’s supposed to be FREE. and the heck?!? They have no words of honor! we should get the first prize! but then they gave us damn calendar! Seriously are they limited in support and money? The Sup3rjunior’s prizes for this attendance contest is far more exciting and interesting than these calendars >_<. Well, bad news is that the prizes will not be further pursued :( . But that's okay! We ELF will still do our best to save money to be able to attend SS5 for SJ ^_^

  28. Hi….it sure does look like that it is the “import duty” that you are being asked to pay. I don’t know about UK, but duties are usually imposed on the type & value of the goods they bring in rather than the weight of the item itself. As this is an import that you did not purchase…I don’t know if the prize you received can be included as a “gift”. Just so you are clear about the matter, I suggest you get in touched with your country’s custom & border site so you can tell them your situation & get a much clearer explanation about the matter directly from them. Duties are not necessarily waived on prizes received, but you just have to explain that what you are getting are just calendars. BTW…are these even SUJU calendars or just random MNET calendars?

Please check the contact link below & ask what your options are….good luck: )

    http://search2.hmrc.gov.uk/kb5/hmrc/contactus/view.page?record=dMVkEC6liWE

  29. i know it just disgusting thingies… and probably, if i’m in your position, i will disappointed like you and can’t believe they can do to this.

i don’t really trust for mnet since first time i knew them.. Maybe, because I’m always feel they just “play” with us and never do the best. Then, what I look into the artist (okay, I’m here because I’m elf and should say the artist is uri oppadeul), they always do the best for their performance.. And in the real life, they just made disappointed to them…. Such a pity….

I won’t never look back again…. But, it just a disgust for me…. Okay, they can do anything they want, they changed everything, because it was their, and what we can do? We can’t do anything, right? We shocked, yes… And then they just ha ha hi hi in their building for lol-ing us (maybe…)

Okay, stop for negative thinking now…. We don’t even know what in their mind, right? We should have a positive thinking, it was for shipping to european.. I think sending something from asian to european is very expensive… And if you wouldn’t receive that, for myself it isn’t a problem.. Because, who we are? ELF. No one didn’t know about us, right? Super Junior isn’t disappointed if you/we didn’t received that… Because they know and love us more than everything…

I really know it’s hard, but if you want receive and pay it, why you paid it yourself? We can pay it together, right? Don’t make a trouble for yourself.. We’re in here because we have a relation… Okay :) I love you guys… :)

  30. Hey. Sorry to hear that.
Im afraid but after my knowledge is not likely the custom fees. Why would they give the package to ups if ‘england’ still gets taxes for the seemingly bought things? It does not make sense.
Usually u get post and go to the custom office and buy ur stuff free. At least that what I had to done once. However it is german law but i dont think england is much different.
Custom fees u hv to pay when u get caught buying smt above 25€.
But not when its a gift, what urs is. A custom worker told me that they need to see the invoice, of course, but also just some evidence that it is a gift is enough. It can just be wrapped and with a happy smt card or so.
I guess u can just find out by asking ups. Packages have a note on it when they were at customs… doesnt help ur problem though but at least we will know if we were getgting fucked cuz seriously when mnet lets u pay for their delivery……e______e
Hope his will end well.wish u all the best!!!!! Fighting

    • Ugh,sorry. Just read that ups pays the fees at the custom beforehand and then gets it back from their customers ㅠㅠㅠ but, if its a prize i still doubt u would have to pay smt. Call the custom and explain that its a prize? They likely just saw the invoice with the calenders on it but did not open it. See what they say and then get in touch with ups
      Good luck

  31. I don’t think any legal action or anything should be taken, but you should let Mnet know what went down. Even if it’s not their fault, they should have done their research when holding an international contest. They should have warned everyone that there could be an extra expense. As to whether or not you want to pay for it… Well that’s really up to you. i completely understand why you wouldn’t.

  32. whaat?? pay for a calendar which is 3months late already…with no albums whatsoever? we already have the prize,we got in the top 5… calendar or no calendar, we proved to be a loyal fandom..and we know who is the really LAST FANDOM STANDING… ^^

    • totally agree with u

  33. of course my choice will be “don’t pay” !!! and I voted for it!
seriously Sid, they don’t care how much will you pay, just refuse it girly =( ..
soon or later, you’ll get something better than what they have ^_^ and as Yeye said “we fail, we lose, to win” ^O^ you’ll win something in someday sweetie ^_^ .. and until that time, our love to SJ and their love to ELF is enough for all of us ^_^ .. just smile and be trololo with MNET kkkkkk xDDD >> trying to make you laughing =D did it worked?! kkkkkk =D ..

  34. bad news and situation for us ., we have to accept it, but it’s not fair for us especially you, we should be patient now, and wait for the next official announce

  35. Please make donation if the cost too much for you and then give calender as a prize in the sup3rjunior contest. Truthfully, i really not very happy because other didn’t take my gift, sure MNET too. Because this is MNET, i am really scary they will make SJ no music awards in the future because they think SJ fanbase pissed they off. You know, in the past between MNET and SME. Sorry my bad english.

  36. hao hao hao ^O^ you lose, you win =D .. I’m happy for you Sid \O/ …
cha cha cha this is the meaning to be a SCARY ELF and trololo kkkkkkkkk xDDD ..
    CONGRATS CONGRATS sweetie ^O^ ..

  37. wow I can sense your frustration…but I’m glad at least they’re still paying. Hope everything works out eventually ><

  38. I am happy for you that Mnet paid, although the prize is not what was expected
Congrats for a win and all the effort, sid :)
